Voted by Zagat in 2016 as the #1 American restaurant in New York and the #1 best restaurant in Greenwich Village, I had to try the Gotham Bar & Grill. As a Michelin star restaurant I was expecting great things, and I wasn’t disappointed.

The first thing I was impressed with was the ambiance of the restaurant. It had a large bar with enough seating and lots of room for the waiting patrons. I had made a reservation and was escorted to our table as soon as we checked in. The dining room was elegant, with nice lighting and space for both large and small parties. The space had a classic feel with white table cloths and crystal glasses, and yet the atmosphere was lively and approachable as opposed to pretentious.

The menu consists of a variety of options that all sounded delectable. I started with the roasted cauliflower, which was very unique and delicious. I chose the Miso Marinated Black Cod for my entrée, which is the chef’s signature dish. With a soft, buttery texture and great flavor, it did not disappoint.

I had been told not to miss the Gotham chocolate cake, and I was very happy with my selection. It was served warm with a side of salted almond ice cream, which was a great complement to the sweet cake.

Overall Dining Experience

I was thoroughly impressed with my visit to Gotham Bar & Grill, and it is no surprise that it is one of the New York restaurants that people continue to rave about. The service was impeccable, with our server giving great recommendations and being available when needed, without hovering. The presentation of the food was phenomenal, with a perfect combination of color, textures, and flavors. The extensive wine list included a large number of French varietals, as well as nice selections from Italy and America. I will definitely visit here again.
